Iget sick to my stomach when hearing news reports of companies firings thousands of workers. There was no wrongdoing by the workers. Those employees were not fired. They were laid off! Most likely because of bad management.
America can begin to rebuild its shattered economy and create millions of jobs by adopting a robust federal energy policy that cuts our oil dependence in half and transitions to 100 percent clean electricity.
I would like to add my complaint to that of Judy Knizner about the curbside pickup lanes at Midway Airport.
Congratulations to the unqualified Cook County Circuit Court judges who have been retained and the lawyers and law firms that keep them on the bench.
The beautiful leaves disappeared quickly, before our very eyes. How I miss their beauty.
With the vast stumbling of the American economy, libraries' budgets around the country will be or have been cut. That includes layoffs and service cuts in some of the most vital areas.
The Sun-Times has won the Triple Crown of inaccuracy and simplicity when it comes to reflecting realities in the horse-racing business in Illinois. ["Horse Tracks Win Race for Your Dollars," Nov.18, 2008].
Guess what! If you're picking someone up, curbside, at Midway Airport and only stop for two minutes to get out of the van, open the back door, load two small bags and have your uncle jump into the van, it's a $75 Chicago ticket for ''obstructing traffic.'' Protest it and you still need to pay!
I think I speak for a good chunk of Chicagoland's large Muslim community when I applaud Rahm Emanuel for doing the right thing by apologizing for his father's disparaging comments about Arabs. I think most of us could not care less what views his father holds but wondered how much of those views his son shared, especially now that he is going to be in a pivotal position as a gatekeeper to the next president. Emanuel laid much of our concerns to rest when he went beyond a formal apology and actually reaffirmed his own values of inclusiveness and equal opportunity. Our hope in change is rekindled.
Regarding the editorial: "Drop $1,200 a month County Board perk" [Nov. 14] -- in most businesses, if you incur out-of-pocket expenses, you fill out an expense report and then are reimbursed. That should be how the County Board works!
I am in the 20 percent minority of evangelical Christians who voted for Barack Obama (Google "red-letter Christians"). Apparently this is a group that the "liberal" media don't believe exists.
