Dave Hoekstra: We made it through another Geography Awareness Week. Who knew? Not Sarah Palin, fer sure. Fox News reported that the Republican vice presidential candidate didn't seem to know that Africa is a continent. The annual Oxford Atlas of the World (Oxford University Press, $80) hit stores as Geography Awareness Week ended Saturday.

Quartino bathrooms allow a peek-a-loo
Dave Hoekstra: Maybe this'll be the start of a trend in Chicago restrooms. Quartino, 626 N. State St., is the only restaurant in the city where you can legally look into the lavatories of the other sex. The peek-a-loo was the idea of Quartino owner Steve Lombardo, who also owns the popular Gibsons steakhouse and Lux Bar.

Baltimore, Md.: 'Uncle Fun' looks for punch lines

BALTIMORE, Md.-- The American Visionary Art Museum, or AVAM, has a 55-foot tall whirligig, sculptures of yarn and a mammoth depiction of Baltimore native Divine, popularized in John Waters' films, such as "Hairspray." The place has a sense of wonder.

Booker T., Mavis Staples set for soulful benefit
Dave Hoekstra: The spirit of tomorrow will illuminate the stage when Booker T. & the MGs appear with Mavis Staples on Saturday in a benefit concert for the Old Town School of Folk Music. The soul music legends each will perform their own set in the Harris Theater in Millennium Park. They will be in Chicago on the cusp of a historic presidential election.

Sexpot star of 'Faster, Pussycat!' returns for art show
Dave Hoekstra: Tura Luna Pascual Yamaguchi (Satana) is best known for stepping up and striking a bunch of men in Russ Meyer's 1965 cult hit "Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" The film will be shown Wednesday at the Music Box Theatre in conjunction with "Tura! Tura! Tura!," a group art show opening Thursday at the Tattoo Factory Gallery.
